It Started With a Scientific Need

In 1942, our forefather Shri Mohan Lal Gupta established the business in Lahore. At the time, the focus was on assembling and supplying improved educational apparatus to schools, colleges and government hospitals. The opportunity was clear: institutions needed dependable scientific equipment that could support practical education and emerging laboratory requirements. The business was not built around simply trading products. It evolved by understanding what scientists, teachers, doctors and institutions actually needed.

From Supplying Equipment to Building It

The business later moved to Ambala Cantt, an emerging centre for the manufacture of basic laboratory products used by schools, colleges, universities and medical institutions. Rather than limiting ourselves to supplying existing products, we began working more closely with scientists and professionals. Their requirements, ideas and feedback encouraged us to look beyond conventional laboratory products and explore equipment for higher learning and research. This was the beginning of an important transition: from assembling and supplying scientific apparatus to manufacturing laboratory products and developing instruments for more advanced applications.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing Became Part of Our Identity

With growing interaction with scientific institutions, Superfit established a manufacturing unit for laboratory glassware and selected scientific instruments. Manufacturing gave us something distribution alone could not provide: a deeper understanding of the product itself. Working with laboratory glassware demanded skill, precision and an appreciation of how products would ultimately be used within scientific environments. Over time, products that had previously been imported could be developed locally with the involvement and guidance of scientists from universities and research institutions.

One of the memorable chapters in our history came during the Indian Science Congress, when Prime Minister Shri Jawaharlal Nehru visited our stall and appreciated the skill involved in our laboratory glassware. In 1975, Superfit opened an office in Mumbai, strengthening its reach and distribution capabilities. Mumbai provided an important commercial base from which we could build relationships with customers, manufacturers and scientific institutions while expanding the availability of our product portfolio. The company also began working with established manufacturers including LABOMED, POLYLAB, GENAXY and REMI, bringing their products into the same distribution network.

Creating a Place to See, Understand and Choose

In 1996, Superfit established a dedicated showroom designed to provide customers with an opportunity to view the broader range of products, understand their applications, evaluate different options and access demonstration and service support. A dedicated display area was also created for LABOMED microscopes, enabling doctors and industrial users to review different models before making their choice. The thinking behind this was simple: scientific equipment should be understood before it is selected.

Mr. Rajendra Gupta

Founder & Director

Mr. Rajinder Gupta founded Superfit Continental's Mumbai operations in the 1970s. He comes from a family that has been in the laboratory instruments business in Ambala since 1952. After completing his MBA at Punjabi University, Patiala, in 1972, he toured Western India to meet R&D centres, pharmaceutical companies and industries. He saw both the region's demand for specialised lab instruments and glassware and the value of being close to customers. Under his leadership, the company opened an office in the heart of Mumbai's lab instruments market. That decision laid the foundation for Superfit Continental PVt Ltd. He is an avid reader with a dynamic, open-minded outlook, and his vision continues to guide the company's commitment to quality and customer trust.

Mr. Ramit Gupta

Director

Ramit is Director at Superfit Continental, with over 20 years of industry experience and a strong entrepreneurial journey that began at the age of 24. A graduate of NM College with an FMB from SP Jain, he brings a practical, business-focused perspective shaped by years of experience. A passionate full marathoner, he embodies the values of discipline, determination, focus, and action. Dedicated to both family and work, he believes in building strong relationships, giving back, and creating lasting value through consistent effort and purpose.

Mrs. Neha Gupta

Director

Neha is a Director at Superfit Continental Pvt. Ltd., bringing an MBA from Amity Business School, a Miranda House (DU) degree and experience across 3i Infotech, and the SUPERFIT’s sister concern, Diamond Lab Instruments. After years centred on motherhood and building the group's digital presence, she now leads process improvement and digital growth. A lifelong learner, half-marathoner, swimmer and Kathak student, she believes, "Our pace can be our own, but moving forward is a choice."
